What are preps?

  • Preps are freshly cooked whole foods sourced from regional farms.

  • Preps reduce the time and effort of preparing delicious, filling and nutrient-dense meals.

  • Preps work in any kind of kitchen: no special equipment or training required!

  • Preps are inspired by our time working in restaurants and other professional kitchens, where we learned that great prep is the key to making great meals.

Some of our best sellers

Vegetables

We sell a variety of fully cooked vegetables including blanched, steamed, roasted and pre-cut (raw) items. We especially love to pay tribute to seasonal, unique and heirloom varieties.

a beautiful quart of blanched broccoli

Blanched Broccoli

We blanch our broccoli in salty water until it’s slightly snappy, never soggy or stinky. It holds up when heated in the microwave for a quick snack, seared in a hot pan, or chopped up and slow-cooked in olive oil and garlic. We crave it drenched in our favorite dressings, covered in melted cheese or queso, or in instant ramen. We hate to run out!

a beautiful quart of roasted carrots

Roasted Carrots

We roast our carrots to highlight their natural sweetness. We like them slightly caramelized but with a bit of a bite. If you usually dip baby carrots in hummus or add shredded carrots to salads, consider this major upgrade. They’re great in recipes too: chop them up and add to sauteed onions and celery for your next soup or meat sauce to add instant depth of flavor.

a delicious quart of boiled gold potatoes

Boiled Gold Potatoes

We boil our potatoes in salted water until they’re tender, so they’re perfect right out of the container. We keep a few containers on-hand at a time: one stays plain for meals throughout the week, one becomes a quick potato salad, and we roast the rest until they’re super crispy. Potatoes are classic for a reason: Add them to just about anything and they make it better.

Beans and Grains

Our cooked beans and grains are plump, tender, flavorful and they reheat like a dream. We feature classic varieties and rotate through other unique and heirloom pulses we come across.

a beautiful quart of brown rice

Steamed Brown Rice

It’s time for brown rice to shed its reputation as “just a health food”. This medium grain variety is a workhorse. Its nutty flavor and chewy texture are welcome almost anywhere. It’s our top choice for grain salads because it tastes great at room temperature and it adds satisfying heft to soups.

a beautiful quart of jasmine rice

Steamed Jasmine Rice

Jasmine rice smells AMAZING. Lucky for us, it tastes even better. That’s what makes it our desert island grain: having some on-hand at all times means that a simple fried rice or filling soup is only a couple minutes away. Of course, this is also our ideal base for sopping up anything extra saucy, like a veggie curry or braised meat.

a beautiful quart of pinto beans

Boiled Pinto Beans

Pinto beans are earthy and meaty and endlessly versatile. We mash them with oil or butter for a fast, flavorful side dish (add melty cheese and top with sour cream, hot sauce, scallions, and nacho flavored chips) or roll them into bean and cheese burritos (which freeze great for fast lunches). They also make great dips!

Proteins

We focus on simply prepared proteins and feature both meat and non-meat options. We work with producers whose methods prioritize animal welfare, worker safety and ecosystem restoration.

a beautiful quart of roasted chicken

Roasted Chicken

We roast whole chickens and pick them for you. The result is a blank canvas ready to be transformed. Tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned on its own, our roast chicken tastes great reheated in simmer sauces, mixed into salads, dressed up and piled high on sandwiches.

a beautiful quart of boiled eggs

Boiled Eggs

We boil our eggs so the yolk is slightly creamy, but not at all runny. Boiled eggs are surprisingly handy to have around: slice them for sandwiches or halve them to top grain bowls or ramen. We leave them in their own compostable packaging (their shell) — they last longer and pack easy for a quick snack.

a beautiful quart of roasted tofu

Roasted Tofu

We roast extra-firm organic tofu until it’s slightly crisp on the sides and a little bit creamy on the inside. Tofu tastes great on its own and it also absorbs tons of flavor from sauces and marinades. A handful of roasted tofu is one of our favorite ways to add protein to soup, salads or noodle dishes.
